King of The Hammers takes place the beginning of the year on public lands in Johnson Valley, California.

The race has evolved from 12 teams racing for bragging rights and a case of beer, to more than 530 teams competing before more than 80,000 fans in person and 2 million viewers online. Due to the incredible success of King of the Hammers, Hammerking Productions created the Ultra4Racing Series, which has grown Internationally.

This year I was part of the storytelling team at King of Hammers which was an incredible experience. As a team of two, we were responsible for shooting and editing the most exciting stories of racers to the world. Our task was to produce 12 videos that would be played on the live stream during the race. It was an exciting and challenging job, as we had to balance capturing the action while telling a story that would keep the viewers engaged and my counterpart would edit the videos in time for each teams race. One of the highlights of the event was following 2022 Ultra 4 winner Raul Gomez of Gomez Brothers Racing. He is a fan favorite and was expected to perform well, but no one could have predicted that he would win the race for a second year in a row, which was the first time any driver would do this. It was amazing to watch him tackle the difficult terrain and overcome the challenges of the race. We were fortunate to capture some incredible footage of Gomez and his team as they pushed through the desert and rocks, and it was a privilege to be able to share his journey with fans all over the world.

Overall, being part of the storytelling team at King of Hammers 2023 was an fantastic experience. It was an honor to be able to capture and share the stories of all the incredible athletes who participated in the races. We hope that our videos helped fans feel like they were a part of the action and get to know each racer a bit more, we look forward to continuing to share the amazing stories that emerge from this one-of-a-kind event.
